Iraqi Cycling Coach Kidnapped and Killed

Two days ago the Iraqi Cycling coach, Mahoud Ahmed Fulayih, was kidnapped and his body was found today. The team recently returned from the Asian Games when he was kidnapped. This is one more senseless murder in a country ripping itself apart. Please take a moment to pray for peace during this holy season.

Tour's Testing Lab Is "Sloppy"

The winner of the Dauphiné Libéré was charged with having illegal levels of testosterone and epitestosterone. A Spanish court has ruled that the laboratory's practices did not meet the standards necessary to convict the rider. The rider is Iñigo Landaluze, and this is the same laboratory that the Tour de France used. This is a major win for Floyd Landis' attempts to keep his Tour de France win.

Link Between Obesity and Better Bacteria

Reports are coming out that there is a positive association between obesity and more efficient bacteria in the digestive system. The people running the study looked at 12 people and measured the proportions of two phyla of bacteria, Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes.

Reuters is reporting on some of the world's cycling trends:
Sixty percent of the workforce in China's capital Beijing cycled to work in 1998; that is down to less than 20 percent now. Hundreds of bike lanes in Beijing have been converted for use by cars.
