Instructions

This map allows you to indicate points of interest and save them. There are several different ways to change the view of the map:

1. You can change the zoom by clicking on the slider at the top left of the page.
2. You can drag the map in the view by putting the mouse pointer on the map, clicking the left button and holding the button down, and then move your mouse. The view should change as you do this.
3. If you double click on a point, that point will automatically be moved into the center of the view.

To set and delete points of interest click once with the left button on your mouse. If you click once on a spot without a marker, a new marker will be created. If you click once on an existing marker the marker will be deleted. If you click on the "Clear" button all points of interest will be deleted. If you click on the "Center" button the geographic center (mean) of all your points of interest will become the center of the view.

To save the map click on the save button. You will then be asked to provide a name and description of the map. If you choose an existing name from the list your old map will be deleted and this one will be put in its place. If you choose a new name, a new map will be created. Any entry in the text box will override your choice in the drop down menu. If you type in a name that already exists you will get an error message.

You can retrieve an existing map by choosing the name of the map in the drop down menu and clicking on the "Get Route" button.

If you want to refer to a particular map in a story there is no easy way to do it. You must save your points (which also saves the view), and then find the URL that will give you the map. The URL can be found by clicking on "List Maps" in your user box and then choosing the stored map that you would like to use. You can then find the URL in the location bar of your browser.
